With so many interesting establishments to explore, the long summer evenings give the perfect excuse to head out and try something new in Kendal.
For the third blog post in our Light Nights series, we head to the Stramongate Area of town: we explore the evening offering on Market Place, the home of Kendal’s weekly market, and head towards the river down Finkle Street, Stramongate and Blackhall Road.
This area of Kendal has seen a wave of activity over the past few years with bars and restaurants opening along with several refurbishments. So gather your friends and head down to the Stramongate Area of town where you will find Italian, Japanese and Indian cuisine alongside classic English eateries.

Eateries

If the warm summer evenings have you craving light and healthy food, this area of Kendal holds the answer, Neko Sushi opened its doors in late 2017 as Kendal’s first Japanese eatery, perfect for a quick bite after work.
Make the most of sunny evenings in the outside courtyard at Masons Yard 24 – one of Kendal’s famous ‘yards’ where you can try the brasserie menu featuring hanging kebabs and prime steak burgers.
For Italian food and friendly service Paulo Gianni’s is the answer. Established in 1990, this busy restaurant runs a famous happy hour offer with pizza and pasta dishes for just £4.99 from 5.30-6.30pm every evening. Adjoining Gianni’s you will find The Townhouse, a new wine bar serving up deli boards and artisan pizzas each evening.
Or why not add a pinch of spice to your summer evenings by dining at one of the two Indian restaurants in this area of town. Choose from Mumbai on Stramongate or India on Blackhall Road, both restaurants open 7 days a week throughout the summer months.
The Gate of Kendal launched a special summer menu in May 2018 with dishes perfect for the warmer evenings. If you haven’t yet tried this newly refurbished eatery, gather your colleagues and head down for an after work treat.
