Did you know that Postman Pat was born just around Did you know that Postman Pat was born just around the corner from here? In 1978, children’s author John Cunliffe was living at 32 Greenside in Kendal when he sat down at his old typewriter and conjured up one of Britain’s most beloved characters.

The little sub post office at 10 Greenside, just steps from his front door, is where John did his research, picturing Mrs Goggins cheerfully sorting letters behind the counter. The rolling hills and friendly folk of the Lake District’s Longsleddale Valley became the fictional village of Greendale. The post office closed in 2003, but today a commemorative plaque marks the spot for you to discover.

Familial Traces brings together two brilliant contemporary artists: Lela Harris and Joshua Donkor for an exhibition about identity, heritage, and the stories that make us who we are.

Through richly layered portraiture, both artists honour forgotten histories and celebrate the personal narratives that connect us across generations.

Kendal Castle is steeped in history. The seat of p Kendal Castle is steeped in history. The seat of power for over 200 years, most notably with the Parr family. Katherine Parr — Henry VIII's sixth wife, and the one who outlived him.
Her handwritten Book of Devotions is still here in Kendal, in the Mayor's Parlour at the Town Hall.
There's so much history packed into this place. Come and find it. 👑

✨ Great news the Quaker Tapestry Museum is reopeni ✨ Great news the Quaker Tapestry Museum is reopening its doors every Wednesday from 6 May, 10am–4pm, completely free of charge.

The museum closed last December after rising running costs made it unsustainable, but a dedicated team of volunteers from the Kendal Quakers have stepped in to bring it back. And it's well worth a visit — the tapestry was stitched by over 4,000 people across fifteen countries and tells the remarkable story of Quaker history through 77 stunning hand-embroidered panels.

(It also won the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year at the Cumbria Tourism Awards just last July — so you know it's special.)

Wednesdays, 10am–4pm · Stramongate, Kendal · Free entry

Running until end of August, with hopes to continue beyond that 🧵
