Kendal is abuzz with excitement as we eagerly await one of the most significant events in our calendar – the 2024 Cumbria Food Awards!
On Thursday, 14 March at Kendal College, this prestigious occasion will be hosted by none other than TV presenter, chef, and restaurateur Simon Rimmer.
More than 150 finalists, judges, sponsors, and special guests are set to grace the event. They’ll be treated to a delightful drinks reception and gala dinner before Simon announces the winners across 13 competitive categories, recognising the county’s best cafés, restaurants, chefs, producers, and service stars. Additionally, two special awards – for Rising Star and Outstanding Contribution – will also be unveiled.
The independent awards, held in association with headline sponsor Caterite and judged by a panel of 15 industry experts, aim to spotlight the outstanding contributions of businesses within Cumbria’s hospitality sector.
Simon Rimmer, a cherished figure from Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, holds Cumbria’s food scene close to his heart. He shared, “I’ve seen Cumbria’s food and drink scene really take off over the last 20 years, with so many Michelin-starred restaurants, incredible producers, and industry stars.”
Before Simon announces the winners, a team of 50 students from Kendal College will showcase their culinary prowess by preparing canapés and a two-course dinner under the expert guidance of Richard Axford and his team.
