Lifestyle store Armstrong Ward in Wainwright’s Yard, Kendal is opening its doors until 9pm on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 November for some festive shopping and cheer.

You’ll be greeted with complimentary mulled wine and mince pies before stepping inside for exclusive offers, help with gift wrapping and the chance to win a fabulous Christmassy hamper.

The evenings are the ideal time to pick out the perfect present and be inspired by the store’s Christmas tree and other great seasonal decorations. For him, for her and for home – as you’ll also find throws, cushions, sofas and lights.

The husband and wife team behind Armstrong Ward hope the events will encourage people to support their local high street in the wake of a turbulent year for small businesses. Jacqueline and Andrew say spending just £5 a week in local independent shops and businesses makes a huge difference to what’s on offer in town.

There are gifts by local makers from Becca Hall illustration, The Little Lakeland Soap Company and Sedbergh soap. As well as those from Armstrong Ward’s favourite British brands – John Sankey, Emma Bridgewater, Neom organics, St Eval Candles and Amanda Coleman Jewellery.

The children’s section will light up the child in anyone. It’s a treasure trove filled with stocking fillers to special gifts. You can choose from a vast array of wooden, well-designed toys that inspire play to fun filled stocking fillers and lots of crafts.

With new national restrictions in place from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December Armstrong Ward also offers a free, virtual and personal shopping service. It means people can find what they are looking for from the comfort of their own home, using the vast expertise and in-store know-how of owners Jacqueline and Andrew.

The couple set up their independent furniture, home ware and gift store in Wainwrights Yard, Kendal in 2005. It’s grown from a start-up with 35 supplier products on sale across one floor, to a two-storey emporium of 200 makers with a café and online store.

Jacqueline says that whilst the pandemic has changed customer habits, customer service remains as important as ever.
