Have you visited our much-loved Farmers Market? It runs in our Market Place on the last Friday of every month.

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Herbivores Organic Greengrocers – an organic fruit and veg stall.

Herbivores was set up in May of 2021 in response to the environmentally compromised decision the team felt they would often face when buying organic produce from a supermarket. This produce was often sourced from distant countries and usually came packaged in single use plastic. They decided to take matters into their own hands and set up a market stall that only offered organic fruit and veg, not sold in plastic packaging, and sourced as locally as possible. Herbivores feel very fortunate to now have a growing number of regular customers who have been very encouraging in their support of what they’re doing.

One of Hervbivores primary suppliers is Growing Well, who have an organic farm just outside of Kendal (a tiny carbon footprint!). They are not only an organic farm, but also a mental health charity, so it’s great they are are able to support their cause by buying from them.

‘Our customers love it too, both locals and visitors love to know where the food comes from and the fact that it’s grown locally, organically and for a good cause is a triple whammy of goodness. As the produce is also seasonal, customers can look forward to the surprise of what might be new to the stall that week and the more unusual varieties, colours and shapes it might come in. We make sure to post exactly what produce we will have at the market on our Facebook page the day before, so please check out the feed if you’d like to get an idea of what you can expect.’ – Sophia from Herbivores

Herbivores are very proud to be able to offer the people of Kendal locally sourced, organic produce, and contribute in their own small way to a happier and healthier community. You can find Herbivores at Kendal market every Saturday (8am-4pm) and Kendal Farmers Market (9am-3pm) on the last Friday of the month.  They look forward to seeing you there!
