Walkers can experience the thrill of tackling one of the region’s most stunning strolls and raise money for people dealing with cancer, this summer.
CancerCare will be holding its annual Cross Bay Challenge which will see more than 300 people walk the famous eight mile stretch across Morecambe Bay from Arnside to Kents Bank – close to Kendal.
The event takes place on Sunday 28 July and will be led by expert guide Michael Wilson who has replaced renowned Queen’s Guide to the Sands Cedric Robinson following his retirement last year.
The walk is one of the biggest events on the CancerCare calendar and raises thousands of pounds which helps the charity provide a wide range of free professional therapy services designed to help people and their families come to terms with, and manage, a serious health condition.
CancerCare’s North Lancashire fundraiser Kat Michaels said: “Walking across the Bay offers a truly unique perspective of the beautiful scenery around surroundings. It’s also an experience not many get to try due to the challenges posed by the tidal sands and mudflats.”
“The Cross Bay Challenge is one of our favourite events, not just for the money it raises but because it’s wonderful to see so many people from different walks of life coming together and enjoying the awe-inspiring landscape we are so lucky to have on our doorstep.”
The walk takes about four hours to complete and costs £15 for adults, £10 for U16s and £1 for dogs; The price includes refreshments. It starts at Arnside Promenade at 2pm and finishes at Kents Bank Railway Station. Participants are recommended to have reasonable level of fitness.
