Yoga in the Park grows across Cumbria as success inspires new locations
The feel-good, pay-it-forward outdoor yoga programme is now available in Cockermouth, Kendal, Carlisle, Workington, Askham and Ulverston
Cumbria Yoga Foundation is delighted to announce that Yoga in the Park has expanded to new locations across the county this summer: Cockermouth, Kendal, Carlisle, Workington, Askham and Ulverston – following an enthusiastic response to the programme since its launch earlier this year.
The outdoor yoga sessions are open to all abilities (16+) and built around a simple idea: step outside, move your body, breathe fresh air, and pay it forward. Full-price tickets include a built-in pay-it-forward contribution that supports the Foundation’s wider charitable work – from free and subsidised places at Yoga in the Park, to Accessible Yoga and Yoga on Prescription programmes bringing yoga to more communities right across Cumbria.
Do good, feel good this Summer
Yoga in the Park runs on a pay-it-forward model. Full-price tickets (£8 per session, or £40 for a six-class pass) include a contribution that goes directly back into Cumbria Yoga Foundation’s wider charitable work – supporting free and subsidised places at Yoga in the Park, and funding programmes like Accessible Yoga and Yoga on Prescription that bring the benefits of yoga to communities across Cumbria who might not otherwise be able to access it.
Concession tickets are available at £4 (or £20 for a six-class pass) for those on low incomes, single parents, students and low-income OAPs. Class passes are valid across all Yoga in the Park locations.
Caroline Robinson, Founder of Cumbria Yoga Foundation, said:
“What we’ve seen since launching in April is really moving. People come along for themselves – to stretch, to breathe, to slow down – and they leave knowing they’ve also helped someone else get that same experience. That’s the pay-it-forward spirit at the heart of everything we do.”
Why nature matters – the science of getting outside
At a time when the average UK adult spends just 7% of their working week outdoors (Loughborough University), Yoga in the Park is a deliberate antidote. Research consistently shows that even 15 minutes in a green space can meaningfully lift mood, sharpen concentration and reduce stress.
By combining gentle movement with fresh air and natural surroundings, each session supports both mental and physical health – no equipment needed, no experience required, and no pressure whatsoever.
Six locations, one community
Following the sell-out success of the spring launch, Cumbria Yoga Foundation has expanded the programme so that more people across the county can take part. Sessions are now running or launching imminently at:
1. Ulverston – Swarthmoor Hall – already underway, launched 14 April 2026
2. Cockermouth – Harris Park – sessions live from Sunday 5th July 2026
3. Workington – Park End Shelter, Vulcan Park, – Sessions live from Thursday 16th July 2026
4. Askham – Askham Outdoor Swimming Pool – sessions live since 6 May 2026
5. Kendal – Abbott Hall Bowling Club – sessions live since 3 June 2026
6. Carlisle – Bitts Park – sessions live since 18 June 2026
Sessions run weekly. 16+. All abilities welcome. Step-free access. Equipment available on request.
Each location is set in a beautiful, distinctive outdoor space – from the historic grounds of Swarthmoor Hall in Ulverston and the poolside setting of Askham’s outdoor pool, to the riverside greenery of Bitts Park in Carlisle, Harris Park in Cockermouth, and the Abbott Hall Bowling Club in Kendal. Every venue has been chosen to make the most of Cumbria’s remarkable natural landscape.
