Currently closed, Lakeland Museum is undergoing an exciting transformation. The museum’s extraordinary collection tells the stories of Lakeland life over centuries. Reimagining the museum will bring these stories to life and make them more accessible to visitors and Cumbrians alike.

Currently, the museum’s collection is being rationalised to identify duplicate or unused objects and uncover hidden stories that should be made more accessible to the public. The end goal is to create a sustainable, resilient and people centred space, reflecting the community’s past whilst safeguarding its important cultural and historical significance for generations to come.

Lakeland Arts looks after key cultural venues in the South Lakes, including Abbot Hall in Kendal and Blackwell- the Arts & Crafts house and Windermere Jetty Museum in nearby Bowness.
