Walk in the steps of Alfred Wainwright…
Kendal Museum is one of the oldest museums in the UK, founded in 1796 by William Todhunter and was at one time curated by the legendary fellwalker, Alfred Wainwright – who worked with Kendal Museum’s current curator Carol Davies when she joined the museum.
The Museum has a long history in Kendal and has occupied various sites, but has been at the current one – previously a wool warehouse – at the northern end of the town since 1913.
As well as being open to the public as a visitor attraction, the Museum is also a teaching department within Kendal College. It is among a small number of UK organisations to offer an occupational museum and gallery skills qualification.
To find out what’s on or plan your trip, visit the Kendal Museum website or call (01539) 815597.
Kendal Museum are excited to announce the re-opening of their art gallery. Situated in the lower floor of the Museum building on Station road, the large room is well lit and features the original stone floor and pillars from its time as a wool warehouse.
