Kendal’s annual Walking Festival is set to return in 2022 for the 5th year!
Kendal, surrounded by beautiful scenery, offers a wide variety of walking experiences from mountains to lakes, rivers to valleys and inspired a team of local walkers to create the Walking Festival back in 2017.
This year, the festival will take place from 6th – 9th May 2022 and will include a special event to celebrate Kendal being home to Britain’s most famous walk writer A. Wainwright. ‘An Evening with Alfred Wainwright’ during which you can learn more about the man himself.
“We eagerly anticipate the Kendal Walking Festival in May 2022 as we return to our favoured time of the year following the frustrations of the 2021 lockdowns. With lengthening days, spring sunshine and the freshness of the countryside as it blossoms into life the walks around Kendal’s locality are astonishingly glorious at this time of year. Whether it’s the opportunity to ‘bag’ a few Lake District Wainwrights or to have a less strenous ramble through countryside of ‘outstanding natural beauty’ we believe there is something for everyone. Following the exertions of the daily walk we also continue to offer opportunities to explore the rich, social history of our town with members of the Civic Society conducting interesting, informative and humorous insights into Kendal’s past as we stroll through its renowned yards and alleyways.” – Andy Blackman
Despite the pandemic, the festival attracted 200 walk bookings in 2021 and is set for an even larger event this year!
Walks are free but must be booked in advance and there are over twenty walks to choose from fitting into one of three grades of difficulty – easy (walks with no steep ascents and few stiles), moderate (terrain with gentle ascents requiring some physical fitness) and strenuous (long walks with steep ascents and experience of hill walking required).
