Kendal’s Manna House is inviting the public to its Open Day on Sunday 5 October (10am to 12noon) to learn more about its work with people who are homeless or vulnerably housed in South Lakeland.

Coinciding with Homelessness Sunday, the charity says its important to remind people of the ongoing struggles faced by people in the local community who are without stable housing. It’s Chair of Trustees, Charles Cowling, said:

“Westmorland and Furness, a delightful place to live, work and play, would be much the poorer without Manna House to provide a safety net for those who fall through the cracks of mainstream life. Manna House plans to remain upright for as long as we are needed, with our arms open wide and our welcome undiminished,” added Charles.

Manna House provides practical and emotional support through:

  • A Drop-in Centre offering food, hot drinks and a welcoming space.
  • Housing and benefits advice to help people secure stable accommodation and navigate support systems.
  • Activities such as the Skills Café, Learning Kitchen, Conversation Café, sewing groups and allotment work, which help people gain skills and confidence.
  • The outdoor Pod, recently granted permanent planning permission, provides emergency night shelter for one-person who would otherwise be sleeping rough. It will be open for people to see on the Sunday 5 October.

Chief Officer Andrea Aldridge, said: “Our Open Day is a chance for people to see what we do and how they can support us. We welcome everyone in the community who is curious, caring or concerned to find out more; we would love to recruit more Friends of Manna House and I’m sure a visit is all it will take.”

Event Details: Date Sunday 5 October; Time 10am to 12 noon; Location: Manna House, The Stephenson Centre, Ann Street, Kendal, LA9 6AA. The event is free and open to all. Light refreshments will be available.
