The countdown has begun to the 2026 Cumbria Food Awards, and several fantastic food and drink businesses from Kendal are among this year’s finalists.

Taking place on Thursday 12 March at Kendal College, the awards celebrate the very best of Cumbria’s food and drink industry. Hosted by TV presenter Chris Bavin, known for BBC shows Eat Well For Less? and Best Home Cook, the evening will recognise excellence across a range of categories judged by an independent panel of industry experts.

While the awards celebrate businesses across the county, Kendal’s vibrant food scene is well represented this year.

Kendal Finalists to Watch

Several well-loved Kendal businesses have made it onto the shortlist for the 2026 awards.

Specialist Retailer of the Year

Lovingly Artisan – the renowned artisan bakery known for its handcrafted sourdough and traditional baking techniques.

Food Producer of the Year

Northern Pasta Co. – a local favourite producing high-quality pasta inspired by Italian traditions and made right here in Cumbria.

Drinks Producer of the Year

Pennington’s Spirits & Liqueurs – a well-known Kendal distillery producing award-winning spirits and liqueurs.

Pub, Bar or Taproom of the Year

The Factory Tap – a popular craft beer bar celebrating independent breweries and local beers.

New Business of the Year

Stable Coffee – a growing coffee brand that has quickly become a favourite stop for great coffee and relaxed café vibes.

Sustainable Business of the Year

Lakes Brew Co – a brewery committed to producing great beer while keeping sustainability at the heart of its operations.

Sustainable Business of the Year

Lovingly Artisan – also recognised in this category for its commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainable baking practices.

A Celebration of Cumbria’s Food Scene

The awards evening will bring together around 165 finalists, sponsors and guests from across the county. Guests will enjoy drinks, canapés and a street-food style dinner prepared and served by hospitality students from Kendal College.

Organised by Michaela Robinson-Tate and Harry Atkinson, the Cumbria Food Awards shine a spotlight on the passionate people behind the region’s thriving food and drink industry.

With so many finalists this year, it’s clear that Kendal continues to play an important role in Cumbria’s food scene. From artisan bakeries and craft breweries to distilleries and coffee roasters, the town is packed with independent businesses that are passionate about great food and drink.
