Lakeland Arts is opening the doors to three of its museums for free this March as part of National Lottery Open Week 2026.
Visitors can enjoy free admission with a National Lottery ticket or scratchcard at:
- Abbot Hall: 7, 11–14 March

National Lottery Open Week is a nationwide initiative to thank players for the £32 million raised every week for Good Causes. It offers the public an opportunity to experience fantastic Lottery-funded arts and heritage projects and organisations for free across the UK – a celebration of the impact made possible #BecauseOfYou.
Highlights across the venues
Abbot Hall kicks off National Lottery Open Week with the public unveiling of Oval Form (Trezion) by Dame Barbara Hepworth on Saturday 7 March at 2pm. This marks the sculptures return to Kendal after 5 years.
Visitors can explore a range of diverse and thought-provoking artworks on display, from the Collection Galleries, sharing enlightening stories connected to South Lakeland’s heritage, to Boat Works, a captivating mixed-media exhibition by Turner Prize-winner Simon Starling exploring migration, transformation and change. The Ecology Gallery also examines the impact of human activity on Cumbria’s landscape and environment.
