Kendal’s groundbreaking International Comic Art Festival celebrates comic art from all over the world and it’s the only event of its kind in the UK.
This October, Kendal becomes the home of comic art as the Lakes International Comic Art Festival (LICAF) brings some of the world’s best comic creators to the heart of the Lake District.
Back in Kendal
The festival has been celebrating comics since 2013. After three years in Bowness-on-Windermere, LICAF is back in Kendal for 2026. The Brewery Arts Centre is the festival’s main hub this year, with events also taking place at Kendal Town Hall, Cross Lane Projects Gallery and businesses across the town.
What’s on
Over the weekend, visitors can enjoy live drawing sessions, interviews, talks, workshops, exhibitions, book launches, children’s activities and a Comics Marketplace. It’s a rare chance to get up close to leading comic creators from around the world.
This year’s guests include the acclaimed American artist Bill Sienkiewicz, who also created the cover art for the 2026 programme.
Exhibitions around town
Some of the exhibitions run beyond the festival weekend. Landscapes of Contemporary Belgian Comics, a touring exhibition showcasing today’s Belgian comics scene, is at Abbot Hall from 2nd to 10th October.
For families
The festival has a reimagined zone for families and children, so younger comic fans can join in the fun too.
