About

To mark the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day and the end of World War II, Kendal’s Mayor, Councillor Richard Sutton will, on Friday 15th August at 11.00  a.m., rededicate the Abbot Hall Peace Garden to the people of Kendal and the cause of peace in the word. The garden, which was installed ten years ago, has been completely rejuvenated following a plan by created by local renowned horticulturist Shelagh Todd, with the work carried out by the Veterans Working Party CIC, who generously volunteered their time and energy.  The white bricks framing the central path have also been beautifully painted by Friends of the Lads and Girls Club, one of the Mayor of Kendal’s nominated charities for the year.

The short ceremony will see wreaths being laid by the Mayor, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mr Sam Rayner, and the High Sheriff of Cumbria, Dr Geoff Joliffe. It will also be attended by councillors and representatives of Kendal’s voluntary and faith sectors.
