With its location on the National Cycle Network routes so close to the Lakes, Kendal is a perfect base to explore the wider Lake District and Morecambe Bay area on your bike. It’s a really popular activity in the town and Kendal even boasts its own Cycle Club.
Kendal Cycle Club is affiliated to British Cycling and is open to all cyclists. Their Clubmark accreditation (a universally acknowledged cross sport scheme introduced by Sport England for community sports clubs) recognises their high standards in welfare, equity, coaching and club management.
The Cycle Club offer regular group rides for a range of abilities, coaching for children and adults, women’s specific events, training for competition and challenge events, helping people improve their fitness, learning and passing on skills and knowledge, road cycling, mountain biking, family rides, social events and coffee and cake, well, they are cyclists…

You’ll find plenty of cycle parking in and around Kendal town centre, on Sheffield racks in prominent places and cyclists can also access one of 20 free to use secure bike boxes located at:

5 – Westmorland Shopping Centre/Blackhall Yard (secure with your own bike lock)
10 – Better Kendal Leisure Centre, Burton Road (keys available at reception)
The Kendal Bike Boxes are part of a larger project called Cleaner, Greener Kendal funded and managed by Kendal Business Improvement District with support from South Lakeland District Council.
