Access Options

Cycling: Cyclists can enjoy a smooth ride along the trail. The path is well-maintained and offers a safe and enjoyable route through some of the region’s most beautiful landscapes.
Paddling: For those who prefer water-based activities, paddling along the Lancaster Canal offers a unique perspective of the surrounding countryside. Canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards are welcome on the canal. A pass is required and can be purchased for £5 from the Lancaster Canal Towpath Trail website.
Towpath Trail Developments
In 2018, the trail took its first steps towards becoming fully accessible with funding from Sport England, which upgraded a 2k section near Stainton. In 2024, with the help of a £1 million investment from the Rural Shared Prosperity Fund, improvements continue from Stainton towards the village of Holme. These upgrades ensure that the trail is accessible to everyone, maintaining high standards of quality and usability.
